BIG ROY’S BOODLE FIGHT – Is it worth it?

Boodle Fight - Big Roy's

Boodle Fight is a traditional Filipino style of eating with bare hands. It also refers to a Filipino communal feast (or salu-salo or kamayan). It is where food is served on banana leaves and eaten without utensils. Kamayan means “eating with one’s hands,” from the root word kamay, which means “hands”. On the other hand, Salu-salo is a reduplication of salo, which means “to eat together” or “to share food”. The practice of Kamayan dates back to the Spanish colonial period. In pre-colonial Filipino culture, utensils such as wooden spoons and ladles were used for serving and cooking but not for eating. It was tolerated by then. However, during the American colonial period, when American dining etiquette and the use of spoons and forks were aggressively promoted, it was suppressed. Most Filipinos think that eating through Boodle Fight makes the food more enjoyable and makes family ties stronger.

BIG ROY’S BOODLE FIGHT

While working as a bellman in a resort hotel in 2013, owner Roy Aguilo, Jr. dreamed of starting his own business. Big Roy’s Boodle Fight debuted in Cavite in August 2018, with two branches opening immediately in Laguna. Soon, in Paranaque and Quezon City, the fourth and fifth branches launched, prompting Roy to open his business for franchising. One of the people who just recently invested in this is Team Payaman’s Cong TV who is a famous influencer and Youtuber in the country. Since his joining, more people became curious and tried out the Boodle Fight restaurant. Have to admit that I am one of them so I wentS to their newest branch in Pasay. The crew told me that they will soon expand to a bigger place across the current one, still in Salem Complex. I guess their food must be really good!

BIG ROY’S MENU

The first time we went, we tried the Barkadahan 1 for Php 1,208 (3-4 pax). There were Tuna Panga and fried buterfly Squid in it and they’re my faves! The butterfly squid was crunchy on the outside and super tasty and juicy inside. Meanwhile, the Tuna Panga was smokey and flavorful! Serving was just enough for us 3, but it can also fit to 4 if not heavy eaters. We couldn’t enough of it so we came back but to different branch (Makati). I brought my family and workmates with me to share the Bisdak Special for Php 2,988 (9-10 pax). All of us enjoyed our feast! Moreover, we also added Bisdak Bagnet for Php 368.

Should you go?

For the price and servings, it’s just enough. If you’ll be with heavy eaters, the rice might lack a little. But the food tastes really good! They season and cook the meat so well making them flavorful. I’d still say it’s worth trying. It made me come back th second time, and I might come back again.
