When it comes to finding a budget-friendly dining spot that offers both flavor and heart, Tata Achot’s PHP 99 Unli Sizzling One-Stop Pulutan stands out in the heart of Sampaloc, Manila. This humble eatery, located at 907 Lerma Street, has a story that goes beyond its affordable dishes. Franz Angelo Dizon, affectionately known as the “pambansang patrolman,” is the driving force behind Tata Achot’s. Franz’s life journey is nothing short of remarkable. After serving time in prison, he turned his life around and became a dedicated police officer. However, his mission extended beyond law enforcement. He became an advocate for giving ex-convicts a second chance in society. This transformation and hope is reflected in Tata Achot’s. It is also a way for Franz to honor his father and the values he instilled in him. Hence, his eatery’s name is dedicated to his beloved dad.
Franz employs former prisoners in his eatery, offering them opportunities to rebuild their lives, and it speaks volumes about their service. They were all accommodating, polite, and helpful to their coworkers and customers. Tata Achot’s isn’t just a place to enjoy a meal; it’s where every dish represents a fresh start and a new beginning. Whether your palate yearns for beef steak, chicken, or sizzling pork, this eatery delivers with flair. Each dish is expertly prepared and presented on a sizzling hot plate or skillet. The sizzle isn’t merely for show; it’s a culinary technique that elevates the dining experience. The intense heat of the plate or skillet seals in the juices, creating a flavorful and aromatic masterpiece that will wake your appetite. Pair this sizzle with unlimited java rice and a rich, savory gravy, and you have a combination that promises an unforgettable meal.
My Experience
Tata Achot’s provides a few outdoor dining tents, offering seating for approximately 20 diners. A small and simple respite from the urban hustle and bustle. Nevertheless, it’s important to mention that the eatery’s proximity to a busy highway does bring some drawbacks. Can be a little bit dangerous, I must say. The location can be quite noisy, warm, and polluted due to the traffic. Parking can also be quite challenging. However, the outstanding flavors served at Tata Achot’s more than compensated for these minor inconveniences. On top of it, they serve these dishes for only under Php 99! We also saw them cook the sizzling dishes, as they prepared them near the dining area. I tried their Porkchop and Rib Sirloin Steak. The serving sizes were quite generous, and the rich gravy matched well with the meats. However, I found the meat to be a bit tough to chew.
We chose to add an extra sunny-side-up egg for Php15, we all Filipinos love our sizzling with this. They used to include unlimited soup, but unfortunately, that’s no longer part of the deal – I wish they still offered it. I would have asked for more rice and gravy and made the most of the unlimited serving only if I weren’t watching my diet. Tata Achot’s is open daily from 2 PM to 1 AM, making it an excellent choice for an afternoon snack or a late-night gathering. Furthermore, to finish it off, we ordered a pitcher of iced tea at Php 59. Despite its location alongside a busy highway, I was surprised that the eatery was well-maintained and clean. I definitely recommend this place, and would love to go back sometime!
