Winford Hotel & Casino Manila; What went wrong during our stay?

Winford Hotel Manila has a fascinating history that traces back to the early 20th century when it was known as the San Lazaro Hippodrome, a popular horse racing track in Manila. However, as the popularity of horse racing declined, the property underwent various transformations over the years. In the early 2010s, the MJC Investments Corporation saw the potential in the location and decided to revitalize the area. After extensive renovations and redevelopment, the property was reborn as Winford Manila Resort and Casino in 2016. Since then, the hotel has been providing guests with a luxurious experience, combining modern comfort with subtle Asian-themed elegance. Despite its history as a horse racing track, Winford Hotel Manila has successfully transformed into a captivating resort and casino. Leaving a lasting impression on both local and international visitors seeking entertainment and opulence in the heart of Manila.

Winford Hotel & Casino Manila offers a luxurious experience with 18 floors of rooms and suites with modern décor and subtle Asian-themed accents. Catering to both leisure and business travelers, providing world-class amenities for relaxation and entertainment. They feature a spa and steam room for rejuvenating treatments and relaxation, a heated outdoor swimming pool, and a state-of-the-art fitness center. With spacious ballrooms accommodating up to 600 guests, it is an ideal venue for special occasions and meetings. The second-floor casino offers thrilling gaming experiences with various slot machines and traditional table games. The Hippodrome Bar and Lounge host live performances. During one visit, we had an encounter with the famous Philippine Entertainment Industry personality, Ian Veneracion. Additionally, Zabana Bar and Copa De Manila Buffet add to the culinary delights with live music, BBQ delights, and an array of culinary favorites, including unlimited lechon feasts during daily breakfast and weekend buffets.

What went wrong during my stay?

Before anything else, we booked the Deluxe Room at Winford Hotel & Casino Manila for PHP 6,300/night (PHP 5,504.92 on Agoda). With a spacious area of 29 sqm, the room was truly beautiful and met our expectations. The bright big glass window with blue and wooden accents created an ambiance that we loved. However, despite our positive experience with the room, we couldn’t help but notice shortcomings in the hotel’s management that negatively affected our overall stay. First, I encountered challenges with their parking facility. The parking ramp was too narrow. To make matters worse, there was only one available ramp. It became frustrating when I had to navigate through the tight space while another car was coming down. I believe the hotel could greatly improve this situation by having a dedicated parking officer to assist guests. Providing guidance and advice when cars are entering or exiting the parking area.

Second, excited to try my luck at the casino, I headed there but was unexpectedly turned away because I was wearing sandals. The dress code policy seemed unclear. As I noticed other guests inside the casino wearing slippers. This inconsistency in enforcement left me feeling frustrated and confused. Lastly, while enjoying the breathtaking views from the lobby area of our room floor, we were taking photos to capture the beautiful scenery. However, a staff member approached us and told us that we stop because our permit to film in the area was still under review. We explained that we were not filming for a vlog yet; rather, we simply wanted to take personal keepsake photos before starting any vlogging activities. Despite our explanation, the staff insisted that we cease taking pictures. These reasons and experiences already gave us a bad impression of our first stay.
